Real Dental Costs for AI assistants

Real Dental Costs gives an AI assistant sourced US dental cost research: what a procedure costs in cash by state, city and nationally, what Medicaid paid per claim line, what each state's adult Medicaid dental benefit covers, and where low-cost care exists. It is a remote server of the Model Context Protocol (MCP), read-only, with no account and no authentication. Publisher: Real Dental Costs (realdentalcosts.com).

Both serve the same tools and figures. Links in answers carry utm_source=chatgpt or utm_source=claude.

Tools

All tools are read-only (readOnlyHint: true, destructiveHint: false, openWorldHint: false) and accept lang en or es.

• dental_cost_by_state: the cash band (low, average, high) of one of 12 procedures in a US state (51 incl. DC), the national band, the gap in percent and the state's Restorative Cost Index, with an observed or estimated badge.
• dental_cost_by_city: the observed average for a single dental implant in one of 206 US cities, with its clinic count and the state band. Only the implant series is published at city level.
• dental_national_average: the national cash band of a procedure and the states at both ends of the range of state averages.
• benchmark_treatment_plan: a treatment plan checked line by line (CDT codes or procedure names, quantities, quoted amounts): state cash band and where the quoted amount falls in it, what Medicaid paid per claim line, the official fee schedule with its age scope, the state's adult Medicaid rule and numbered sources.
• medicaid_adult_dental_rules: a state's adult Medicaid dental level, annual dollar cap with a verbatim quote, orthodontics and implants policy, share of dentists billing Medicaid and the official fee schedule.
• medicaid_paid_by_code: what Medicaid paid per claim line (T-MSIS 2018-2024) for one of 61 CDT codes, nationally or in a state, with the official fee when one is published.
• low_cost_dental_options: dental schools, health centers, dental shortage areas (HPSA), Mission of Mercy events and charity programs in a state, with an optional county.

Each answer has a structuredContent object; the treatment-plan tools return a numbered list of sources. In ChatGPT and Claude, a card shows the figures and its sources.

How to read the figures

• Source and period. Every figure carries the URL of its source and its period or effective date.
• Observed or estimated. Observed figures are measured; estimated figures are modelled from a measured series. Band edges (low, high) are modelled.
• Missing figures. When no source covers a level, the answer says no_source_at_this_level and gives the next level up. Nothing is invented.
• Medicaid paid per claim line is what Medicaid paid (T-MSIS), not what a patient is charged.
• Official fee schedules carry an age scope: children_only when the source says so, not_verified otherwise. They are context only and never the reference for where a quoted amount falls.

Limits
